Almost all of these can be considered ZOOM-CLIMBS, which is a typical take-of followed by a climb to altitude as close to 90* as possible without stalling. P-38 Lightnings, P-51 Mustangs, F-4U Corsairs, P-57 Thunderbolts, F4 Phantoms, Me262 are all known for jaw-dropping zoom-climbs. You suddenly understand what jaw-dropping means when you're talking about the 1:4 power-to-weight ratio typically found in the old warbirds. Modern aircraft are designed with a 7:1 power-to-weight ratio.
